2024 Fall Wild Blue Dogs Hikes
Please note all hikes are subject to change based on weather conditions. Bring towels to cover car seats and to wipe off your dog.
Be sure to speak with the hike leaders if you have any questions on trail terrain and ability levels.
All hikes meet at the PARKING LOT.
WE WILL DRIVE TO THE TRAIL HEADS and carpooling is encouraged.
please bring water for yourself and your dog!

lam-wah-tah - [± 2.0 miles]
Description
This hike will begin at the campground and is a level trail through the Rabe Meadow which is just north of camp. It can be short or long depending on which trail loops you would like to take. We will walk from camp out through the entrance and loop around to end at the 4-H beach. There are restrooms located in the campground area which will be near the end of the hike.
Leashes are required at all times.

Van Sickle - bi-state park - [± 2.5 miles]

Description
This is a loop hike that is approximately 2.5 miles. There are 2 rock outcroppings which allow for wonderful pictures with the lake in the background. There is a portion of the longer trail with a small waterfall and creek. The uphill portion is moderate and there are restrooms at the trailhead.

This is a pleasant hike through the forest along Burke Creek. The terrain is fair to moderate. Restrooms are located in the parking area.

Fallen Leaf Lake - [± 1.5 miles]

Description
This is an out-and-back primarily level hike with a few areas of uneven terrain. This beautiful hike will take you to the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake where the pups can play at the water’s edge. There are plenty of downed trees for pups to “parkour” on. There is also the option to extend the hike by an additional 0.5 miles for those who want to walk along the water’s edge to the lake’s dam.

Description
This is a level trail along the shoreline at Zephyr Cove. It is a fantastic water play area. Restrooms are available at the Zephyr Cove Resort. Park at the library. We will cross Hwy 50 for this hike.

Skunk Harbor - [± 2.8 miles]

Description
This is a 2.8 mile out-and-back trail (1.4 miles uphill). You will walk down a USFS access road to the secluded shoreline and a historical stone building from the 1920s. This area can only be accessed from the hiking trail or a boat. The way back is all uphill. There are no restrooms or trash bins so be prepared. Feel free to bring a towel and a bathing suit to cool off and take a swim!

Castle Rock - [± 2.9 miles]

Description
This is an out-and-back hike with portions of rocky terrain. It is moderately challenging with very good views of Lake Tahoe from above. Elevation change is approximately 570 feet and it takes about an hour and a half to two hours to complete, so clear your afternoon schedule to enjoy this wonderful hike.

Description
This is an out-and-back hike that strolls along the banks of Trout Creek, one of the 63 streams flowing into Lake Tahoe. It is an easy hike through a beautiful meadow.

Round Hill - [± 2.5 miles]

Description
This trail takes you to the top of Round Hill which is located north of the 4-H camp. It is a short hike with portions of fairly steep uphill to the top (breather breaks will be taken). The view from the top is wonderful with a great view of the 4-H camp. There are no restrooms or water so be prepared.
